Let’s get together this summer!
Hey BEAM Alums!
Do you miss your BEAM friends? Want to meet BEAM alums from different years? Having a yen to play some games? Just want to hang out and get some free food?
Then you should come to BEAM’s Summer 2022 Alumni Social Events!
We’ll have food! We’ll have sunshine (hopefully)! We’ll have games! We’ll have swag bags! And best of all… We’ll have each other!
Read on for details about our Picnics-in-the-Park, End-of-Summer Reunion Party, and Dinner-on-Us Program!
These events are open to BEAM alums with high school graduation year 2022 or earlier.
Picnics-in-the-park

Where: The southwest section of Sheep Meadow in Central Park. We will text everyone who RSVP’d on the day of the picnic to let you know exactly where we are.
When: We will be hosting four picnics:
FIRST PICNIC
Saturday 6/25/22, 12:30pm-2:30pm
SECOND PICNIC
Friday 7/15/22, 6pm-8pm
THIRD PICNIC
Saturday 7/30/22, 6pm-8pm
FOURTH PICNIC
Wednesday 8/17/22, 12:30pm-2:30pm
Food: We will be serving Chipotle burritos, chips, and dips.
What to Bring: You don’t have to bring anything but yourself! You might want to bring sunscreen and bug spray, since we’ll be outdoors. If you want to, you can bring a side dish/dessert to share, your own picnic blanket, a game you really want to play, or anything you think would be cool or fun to share with your fellow BEAM alums!

Parental Consent: If you will be under the age of 18 on the date of the event, we will email a permission form to your parent/guardian(s).
Health precautions: These events are outdoors. Masks are welcome but not required. Use good judgement and respect everyone’s boundaries when it comes to social distancing.
Weather: We will have an event tent to provide some shade and shelter from light rain. If the weather is too severe to hold the event, we will reschedule and we will contact everyone who has RSVPed to let you know.
Accessibility: We have chosen a location that’s a short walk from the Columbus Circle subway station and other public transportation stops. We will likely be set up on grass and the ground might be uneven. Please email Cecily if this presents accessibility issues for you so we can do our best to accommodate your needs.

It’s possible that crowds or weather will cause us to relocate to a nearby spot within Central Park. In this event, Cecily will text everyone who has RSVPed from (347) 252-6426 with updated information.

Join us in Central Park for fun & games. These picnics are low-key hangs. We’ll provide picnic blankets, a main course for a meal, beverages, some yard/board games, and goodie bags to show our appreciation for you. You only need to bring your wonderful self, but you’re welcome to bring snacks to share, your own picnic blanket, and games or activities.
Dinner on Us

Before or during the picnic: Organize a group of 3-5 BEAM alumni who want to go out to eat together. Choose a restaurant and set a date and time for your meal. Make sure at least one of you is coming to the next picnic.
At the picnic: At least one member of the group must be present at the picnic to sign up. We will have a brief form for you to fill out with the names of your group members, the restaurant you want to go to, and when you’re planning to go.
That’s it! From here, Cecily will take care of the rest!

After the picnic, Cecily will email a digital gift card in the amount of ($20)x(size of your group) to the restaurant you listed to the person who filled out the form.
You are responsible for any cost exceeding the value of your gift card.
Please send Cecily a photo of your receipt and have each member of the group write their names on the back. You can email it to Cecily or text it to her at (646) 906-8203.
Also, please send us pictures of your group at dinner! We really want to see you enjoying your time together.

Q: Other than signing up, what do we need to do?
A: Please send a picture of your receipt with the signatures of each BEAM alum in your group to Cecily. We would also love it if you took some pictures together at the restaurant and sent them to us! Besides that, just enjoy your meal together!
Q: What if some of the info we wrote down on the signup form changes?
A: Just let Cecily know! In most cases, this will be totally fine. However, if your gift card is for a specific restaurant, it can’t be transferred elsewhere.
Q: What if the restaurant we want to go to doesn’t do digital gift cards?
A: We have plans to work around this. However, please make sure the restaurant isn’t cash-only.
Q: What if I want to participate but don’t have anyone to go with?
A: Ask some of the other students at the picnic if they’d like to join you or let Cecily know and she’ll try to match you with others who want to participate.
Q: It’s called “Dinner-on-Us” but what if we want to go out for lunch instead?
A: That’s fine! Breakfast, brunch, dessert, all fine!
Q: I can’t make it to the picnics but I still want to participate. What should I do?
A: Sign-ups only happen at the picnics, so you must find a group member who can make it to one of the picnics if you can’t make it. Let Cecily know if you need help connecting.
Q: How do I get in contact with Cecily for other questions, sending in my receipt and pictures from the dinner, or anything else?

Want to spend some time with your BEAM friends in a smaller group eating and chatting? Want to go out to a restaurant and get to know a few other BEAM alums? Want to have BEAM foot the bill?
Sign up in groups of 3-5 for the Dinner-on-Us Program to get $20 each to dine at a restaurant of your choosing! Sign-ups take place at the picnics, and at least one member of your group must be present at the picnic to sign up.
Alumni Reunion Party

When: Saturday, August 13 2022, 1pm-4pm
Food: TBD. Food, beverages, sides, and dessert will all be provided. Share your food suggestions with Cecily.
What to Bring: You don’t have to bring anything but yourself! You might want to bring sunscreen and bug spray, since we’ll be partially outdoors. If you want to, you can bring a game you want to play, or anything you think would be cool or fun to share with your fellow BEAM alums!

Health precautions: This event has both indoor and outdoor space to allow for a range of health risk tolerances. Masks are required indoors except while actively eating. Use good judgement and respect everyone’s boundaries when it comes to social distancing.
Weather: We will have an event tent to provide some shade and shelter from light rain in the outdoor space. If the weather is too severe to go outdoors, the event will be held completely indoors.
Accessibility: There are 1-2 steps to enter or exit the indoor area and some narrow passages when moving around indoors. Please email Cecily if this presents accessibility issues for you so we can do our best to accommodate your needs.

It’s the End-of-Summer Alumni Reunion Party! Let’s get together, eat some good food, reconnect with old BEAM friends and staff and have a great time! We’ll be hosting in a location that has indoor and outdoor space and getting food catered for the event. And if you missed out on your BEAM Winter Reunion t-shirt, you can grab it this time around, along with some other cool swag.
